iJustice organised its second roundtable on "Applicability of Competition law to Education Sector: Jurisdiction and Scope of Remedies", on 9 May 2014 at the CCS Office. Around 14 people attended the discussion. Two main issues discussed were: (a) whether Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) charging very high registration fee and an advance pre-admission deposit can be challenged before Competition Commission of India; and (b) is there a remedy for budget private schools under Competition Act, 2002 against selective enforcement of norms and standards under Right to Education Act leading to school closure.

An important outcome of the event was filing of ‘information’ against CLAT registration fee and pre-admission advance deposit on grounds of abuse of dominance.
